Accommodation

During the whole Balloon week, more than 60'000 spectators come the Château-d'Oex and about 150 journalists from the world cover the event. The vast majority of the balloon week spectators are day trippers, and naturally the weekends are the most popular.
Chateau D'Oex is a ski resort, so there are plenty of hotels and guest houses to choose from. The last week in January is not the peak of the ski season, so finding a room for a few nights particularly in the middle of the balloon week (Mon to Fri) may be possible. However, booking early is advisable.

Tip: Check that your hotel is within easy walking distance of the balloon landing field. Any hotel actually situated in the village of Chateaux D'Oex is within 5 - 10 min walking distance of the balloon landing field.
Tip: If you can't find accommodation in Chateau d'Oex try the neighbouring villages of Rougement or Rossiniere, linked by rail and only 10 min away.
Tip: You can book a hotel over the internet or by telephone through the local tourist office but they will charge a commission. You can save money by booking directly with apartment owners or hotels.
