History - Breitling Orbiter


Chateau D'Oex is also famous as the launching site for several world circumnavigation attempts by the Breitling Orbiter team.


Breitling Orbiter 3

On 1st March 1999 at.8.05 UTC. the Breitling Orbiter 3 took off from Chateau d'Oex to undertake a non-stop round-the-world flight with the pilots, Bertrand Piccard and Brian Jones on board. After a flight of 19 days, 21 hours and 47 minutes they succeeded in their exploit of the first round the world balloon flight when they landed in Egypt after having flown 45,755 kilometers.

Breitling Orbiter 3 visits Balloon events around the world, including Chateau dOex.
